M B Coxon - [S138] Newspaper cutting recording an accident to Robert Coxon, Early on Wednesday morning Robert Coxon (19), of Newbiggin, with two companions went out in the direction of Cresswell Rocks on a shooting excursion. Feeling tired, Coxon lay down for a rest and went to sleep. Burn and the other youth shortly after this heard a report, and running back, found Coxon lying over his gun. He had severe head injuries. It appears that when he lay down he had tied his dog to his gun, and that the animal had been moving about and by some means or other exploded it. The poor lad was removed to his parent's house and seen by Dr. Evers, who ordered his removal to the Newcastle Infirmary
