Ellen (Helen) Scott
F, #102, Deceased, b. 12 September 1822, d. 29 August 1891
Parents
Biography
- She was also known as Helen Scott.
- She was also known as Frances Ellen Scott.12
- (There is some inconsistency in the way her name is spelt mostly variations on Eleanor, Eloner (1851), Ellen (1871, 81, 91). The exception is Helen in 1841. Elllen is the name she seems to have preferred in her later years).
- She was born on 12 September 1822 in Ancrum, Berwickshire, Scotland. Research Note: Helen/Ellen's Birth/Baptism record is very elusive. Partly because we have no pointers to her parents except from the 1841 Census where it is noted she was born "out of the county". So we are looking for a record possibly in Berwickshire. Also on the basis of the Scottish naming convention her father was probaby called "Robert": the 2nd son being called after the mother's father. This convention appears to have been adhered to when we look at her large family. Her DOB from the censuses and death record is fairy consistent pointing to a DOB c 1821.3,4
- She was baptised about 20 September 1822.3
- She married William Jamieson about 1842 in The Parish Church, Sprouston, Roxburgh, Scotland. (William and Helen were unmarried at the time of the 1841 Census. But appear to be married by Dec 1843 on birth of James. This gives a date of marriage of c 1842. Unfortunately the marriage records of Sprouston Parish church for this period were burnt in a fire).
- She died on 29 August 1891 in Bedlington Bank Top, Northumberland, England, at age 71y.5,6
