  • Biographical Note: An Alexander R White is 5 months old in the 1891 census. 10 years later in 1901 an Alexander Rankin is 7 years, i. e. 3 years younger than expected. Later Alexander Rankin's DOB is confirmed as 1894. Therefore there must have been a first Alexander, who died before Alexander Rankin was born in 1894.
  • Research Note: I append these notes from a conversation with Nan Hunter (Niece to his wife). Further verification is needed.
    "Alex Whyte, RAF, Test pilot & in CID (looking for spies). Had house in Rothsey + possibly another on the coast. Died when young. Related to Whyte of Whyte's whisky. Granny Whyte was Alex's mother. His two girls had an annuity from Granny Whyte. "
    NB: From RSW, There is a lot of info on the internet about the Whyte family, Wine & Spirit merchants, but nothing has been found to connect them with our "Alex Rankine White", except that in his military service record he is recorded as being a "Wine & Spirit Merchant".

" The battle opened on the 25th September 1915, so he must have been killed on the first day of the battle>
